Ten By Ten- India's IT & BPO Outsourcing

Date : 3 Jul 2007

BPO, the act of relocating some of the organization's constant core and non-core business procedures to an external supplier to attain the cost reductions while improving the service quality. If done well, BPO render domino effect as it results in raising the shareholder value. The stark difference between the BPO and the more traditional IT outsourcing is that the BPO suggests to the companies a way of achieving transformational conclusions much more rapidly.

A McKinsey-Nasscom report states that the development is definitely going to approach on the way to Indian companies as they are abiding to uphold their 46 per cent share of the global business processing outsourcing market and 65 per cent share of the IT outsourcing market by 2010.

By the end of the first decade of the new millennium, the entire business will take a leap from the current $30 billion to an estimated $300 billion. Also by March 2010, these two sectors—IT and BPO of the Indian economy will make $60 billion in exports, an augmentation from 3 per cent of gross domestic product to about 7 per cent. By 2010, the BPO industry is likely to grow from $11.6 billion today to $150 billion and over the next five years, IT outsourcing is expected to cultivate from $18.4 billion to $150 billion.

McKinsey partner Noshir Kaka said that by 2010, the predictable growth will directly take up approximately 2.3 million people and make available indirect service to further 6.5 million workers. Moreover it will compensate for an enormous infrastructure too.

In order to apply break to the obstruction to the growth, McKinsey co-worker Jayant Sinha cited that the skills and quality of the workers have to be improved for the fact that only 25% of the technical graduates and 10 to 15 % of the general college graduates are appropriate for the employment in the offshore IT and BPO industries. He goes on further saying that since the margin come under the stress, so other than introducing something new and rising the new service lines, companies must also be competent to incessantly improve the operational excellence. He asserts that the additional growth should arrive from the exclusively new business locality, the exterior of Tier I and Tier II town.

BPO is a key area of focus for the IT service providers as with BPO, the suppliers owns and operates the resources, counting infrastructure, applications, and people too, on the way to deliver a business process as a service to customers.
